A long and boring day

April 25, 2008

I have to say that I find that sociology is really boring. I tried to prepare for tomorrow’s exam all day today, but my thoughts keep wandering off into the clouds  I definitely still have a ways to go before I can cal it quits, but I decided to give my head (and hand!) a break and post here.

I ate the last of my BBQ beans for lunch today along with some rice and some baby carrots. I needed entertaining, so I put each thing in a separate bowl… OK, so that didn’t entertain me, but I tried!

While my rice was cooking for lunch, I threw together some supper. I made a sort of Indian-themed pilaf with barley, lentils and red pepper. It was really good, too bad I already forget what I put in there for spices! Here’s what I do remember: cumin, turmeric, coriander, garam masala, chili powder and chicken broth instead of water. I also added some extra water so that the barley would be extra soft and expand even more than usual.

Here’s my snack:

more of the same fruit salad I ate for breakfast! The container was actually full when I started, so I probably ate double what’s in the photo. I’m a bit snack-y right now and still have reading to do, so I think I’l go find some carrots to mindlessly munch on

Edit:

So here’s what I’m drinking this evening:

And here are a fer words of caution:

Someone doesn’t follow directions very well. Suffice it to say that I’m now wearing my PJ’s

First daily wrap-up

April 22, 2008

I wish I could say that today was a super productive day, but I can’t. I did get some studying done and I started packing, but I also did a fair amount of procrastination. I have two more exams on Thursday but I just can’t get into study mode. I think my brain has already gone on vacation!

On to the food…

Lunch was leftovers, as usual! “Fried” brown rice with mushrooms and carrots with a side of Hoisin BBQ beans. I guess it was an Asian themed meal :)

My dinner was inspired by HappyHerbivore: cauliflower curry with black rice and a dollop of yogurt. This was a really nice change from my usual flavours! I’m not going to post a recipe because while I half followed a recipe, I also just sort of tasted and added spices as I went along. I’m not really sure that I could remember what I threw in there. It’s basically just cauliflower and spices though.

Later in the evening I had my “desert” – a rice pudding of sorts. I basically cooked some brown rice in vanilla almond milk until it was all nice and creamy. I also added some goji berries, but you can’t really see them. I guess it was really a snack, not a desert since I ate it a couple of hours after supper  I had planned on it for desert though so that’s what I’m calling it!

Finally, an apple. I wanted to slice it up nicely to make it last longer (my fave way to eat apples!) but I already packed up my knives! All my veggies are already chopped up and ready for the week so I thought it would be OK to pack them… I guess I was wrong, but I’m not unpacking them!

That’s it! I have to go un-confuse myself now… somehow I got myself all mixed up in my fluid mechanics notes today :( Sigh… It’s almost over, it’s almost over, it’s almost over….. I can’t wait!

Snack-y

April 21, 2008

I’m having such an off food day today. I think it comes from eating breakfast earlier than usual, followed by a substantial snack and a late lunch. I just didn’t feel like a real meal for supper tonight, so I didn’t make one! I just snacked on some carrots, red peppers, an apple and some leftover beans. I actually did end up portioning out some of the beans after I took the photo, since I didn’t think it was smart to just dig in with my spoon.

On another note, I will be shifting my blogging from three to two times per day starting tomorrow. Usually my lunches are leftovers of some sort and not too exciting, so I’ll either include lunch with breakfast or supper. This will have to happen as of next week when I start work anyway, so I thought I might as well start now and also give myself the freedom to stay at school and study over lunchtime. I may still do a lunch post from time to time, it just won’t be as regular anymore

Beans, Take 2

April 20, 2008

Another food you’ll be seeing a lot of I think – beans! I cooked a whole bag of adzuki beans last week and put half of them in the freezer, so they will continue to make an appearance over the next week or so. This time, I made Orient Express from Looneyspoons (again!) I’ve got another Looneyspoons meal planned for tomorrow night and then I think you’ll get a break :)

I took the photo this afternoon as I was putting it in the fridge, so I caught the bottles (and my lunch in the pot) in the background. It looked cool, so I decided not to take a photo as I was eating tonight. The recipe actually calls for chicken I think, but I subbed in some beans instead. I do eat meat, but I could be happy for a long time without it and I don’t buy it too often. You’ll see a lot more of it though when I’m home with my family for the summer.

Before I headed out to school this afternoon, I had a small mango and a cup of coffee. I usually limit my caffeine intake to the morning (and not even that often) so I might be up all night tonight… eek! What was I thinking?

And back to the books I go

Getting stuff done

April 20, 2008

I got a lot done this morning, even if it didn’t include opening a book! After breakfast, I puttered around a bit, not really doing much of anything – just a few little things that needed to be done. I also used this time to think about what I am going to do today and plan my day a bit. I decided to do a bit of biking, so I ate an apple beforehand to give me a quick little boost. Here it is with my bike, all ready to go in front of my TV.

By the time I finished that, it ws time to start lunch. I put my rice on to cook and then decided to make my dinner while I waited. Now I have dinner all ready for me in the fridge for when I get hungry and I made good use of the long cooking time for brown rice.

I topped my rice with some sautéed red pepper and some hoisin-BBQ adzuki beans. I was starving by the time my rice was ready, so I devoured this meal! Now I’m still waiting for my stomach to receive the “full signal”!
