Surprise!

May 6, 2008

It’s muesli again! This time, my muesli was loaded (well, by my standards it was… ) This morning I used my usual combo of oats and plain yogurt, along with a few goji berries, some thawed berries and some peanuts.

Ya know what? I didn’t like the peanuts or the blackberries – too much crunch in my otherwise creamy muesli! It was still good, just not amazing.

Here’s my lunch for today:

It’s almost the same as yesterday except that there’s an apple, there are no more pickles and I just packed my veggies on my sandwich this time. I may be eating a soggy ham sandwich, but I hope not :P

Change of plans

May 4, 2008

Well, I took pictures all day yesterday with the intention of doing a big evening post, but then I ended up going away overnight and leaving my camera at home!

I threw together a nice vegetarian pasta for lunch yesterday. I stir-fried some broccoli and mushrooms with a bit of ginger and jalapeƱos, cooked some whole wheat pasta and tied it all together with a splash of vegetable broth. To me this is a great summer pasta, nice and fresh tasting.

Later in the afternoon, I cut up a mango that was seriously calling my name from the refrigerator  It was juicy and delicious as usual!

This is where it all falls apart. As I said, I went away overnight at the last minute to take advantage of my last weekend before I start work tomorrow. The trip started with a trip to the local indian restaurant. This was my first experience with real Indian food (ie not cooked by me) and I have to say that I really enjoyed it! I don’t remember exactly what we got, but we started with some samosas, followed by two meat dishes (both of which I can’t remember what they were) served with some basmatti rice and naan. Oh man, this stuff is amazing… I’ve been missing out  I definitely want to try google-ing the restaurant to figure out what I ate so that I can try to re-create it!

This morning, I just had a quick and easy breakfast – peanut butter toast. Okay, I’ll admit it, I slept through breakfast again… this was actually my lunch. I also had a chocolate chip cookie on my way out the door

Dinner was another stir fry cooked by my boyfriend :D This included ham, green peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots and rice. Again, no photo – I was too hungry to go in search of batteries for my camera. I’m not a very good blogger lately, am I? All I can say is that it was super yummy multiplied by a thousand because it was cooked for me!

Tomorrow is my first day of work and I’m a bit nervous because I honestly don’t know what to expect. I am excited too though, so all is good. I will probably have a busy morning though, so I’ll just tell you my breakfast plans tonight: toast and peanut butter with a banana if my mom doesn’t get to it first… I think she packed it in her lunch though, so I may have to settle for another fruit.

Here’s my packed lunch:

A ham sandwich on a large ciabatta bun (on the bottom right), the vegetable fillings to go on the sandwich when it’s time (on the top in the bag) and some carrots. In the veggie bag are tomatoes, pickle slices, cucumber slices and lettuce. Here’s the sandwich from up close:

See you tomorrow night!

A long and boring day

April 25, 2008

I have to say that I find that sociology is really boring. I tried to prepare for tomorrow’s exam all day today, but my thoughts keep wandering off into the clouds  I definitely still have a ways to go before I can cal it quits, but I decided to give my head (and hand!) a break and post here.

I ate the last of my BBQ beans for lunch today along with some rice and some baby carrots. I needed entertaining, so I put each thing in a separate bowl… OK, so that didn’t entertain me, but I tried!

While my rice was cooking for lunch, I threw together some supper. I made a sort of Indian-themed pilaf with barley, lentils and red pepper. It was really good, too bad I already forget what I put in there for spices! Here’s what I do remember: cumin, turmeric, coriander, garam masala, chili powder and chicken broth instead of water. I also added some extra water so that the barley would be extra soft and expand even more than usual.

Here’s my snack:

more of the same fruit salad I ate for breakfast! The container was actually full when I started, so I probably ate double what’s in the photo. I’m a bit snack-y right now and still have reading to do, so I think I’l go find some carrots to mindlessly munch on

Edit:

So here’s what I’m drinking this evening:

And here are a fer words of caution:

Someone doesn’t follow directions very well. Suffice it to say that I’m now wearing my PJ’s

Busy Day Ahead!

April 24, 2008

Today is my last long day at school  First up is my fluid mechanics final exam at 8:30, then a short break followed by my computer science exam at 12:30. This is the second CS exam, I wrote the paper one on Monday and today’s exam is actually on a computer. I’m a bit nervous because it will be graded electronically, which means that one little typo will lose me a lot of points since no one actually reads the programs we write. Did that last sentence even make sense? If not, let’s just say that I’m a bit nervous! After that exam, I have a 30 minute break before I have to meet my partner to discuss our assignment that’s due in another 30 minutes. Hopefully she’s got it all figured out because I don’t even remember how I did my half anymore  After all of that I have a PJ party with a kids group I volunteer with. I have to admit, supper may just be cake  I’ll try to pack some food to take with me, but that’s getting a but scarce around here

With this busy day in mind, I’m spreading my meals into mini meals today. Each meal isn’t really complete in the sense of having all the food groups but I will try to get them a in at some point throughout the day! Breakfast is the simplest of muesli’s – just oats and yogurt. I didn’t even have a piece of fruit on the side, but you can bet that I’m having some caffeine before my exam!

Snack number one is a larabar

Yes, I took that photo last night in my semi-dark room as I was packing

Snack number two, more of a meal, is leftover cauliflower curry and black rice. It would probably hold me better if there was some protein, but I don’t know what I feel like eating with this so it will be on it’s own.

Other snacks I’m bringing with me to eat as I need them are carrots, peppers and a kiwi

Pasta? Pizza? Maybe Both!

April 23, 2008

Another day of study study study! I broke it up today though with a class and a trip to the store, where I bought a larabar for tomorrow. Yes, I went all the way there for a bar to eat between exams! I think the real reason was for a study break though  It was a beautiful day to walk outside too!

Lunch was leftover pasta from the other day. I’m too tired to remember what it was called (from Looneyspoons though), but it was good again as leftovers.

Sorry for the blurry photos, I’m not a good photographer today!

I got a bit hungry during the afternoon (or it may have been exam nibbles… hard to tell) so I had a bowl of yogurt and a kiwi. I found a steak knife that wasn’t packed, so I even managed to cut it!

So, I would really have loved some pizza for supper but that just wasn’t in the plan for today. What did I have instead? A pasta pizza, no recipe again though because it’s from Looneyspoons again. Last one for a while though :P

On a side note, please excuse any typos – especially words with an L – my keyboard is being stubborn. Here’s what heppens when I hit L once llllllll GRRR! I don’t have time for computer problems now!

Oops, I almost forgot the most important part – the last of the soy chocolate PB ice cream!
