Comfort food

April 27, 2008

Good morning! I’d like to make an announcement… I did not eat muesli this morning! Instead, I ate my oats and goji berries hot, cooked in milk :D

Wow, a bit blurry today… I must need to get some food into me if I can’t even take one good photo (I took about 5, this was the best!)

This was definitely comfort food, it hit the spot! I added some cinnamon during the cooking process and I have to say it’s delicious. Even though it’s not really a nice day out, (8°C and cloudy) I still think it’s too warm for oatmeal – I’m sitting here sweating now! Oh well, it’s what my belly wanted, so that’s what counts!

On the side I had a large cup of tea. Then I went back for a second cup  Good thing it’s white tea, which I think has less caffeine than back tea. Anyone know for sure? I don’t feel like Google-ing.

I think any exercise is out of the question for today (unless it’s to the store to get fruit and soup) I have a sore throat  I’m so sad because I’m finally going home to see my boyfriend (and to see everyone else too) and I don’t want to be sick. I think I’m going to drink lots of water today to try to “flush it out” before it takes hold. Think that’ll work? I hate taking things (unless the doctor says I have to), so any herbal remedies are out too. I’d better get moving if I want to get to the store before the Sunday afternoon shoppers!

Mocha Almond Oats

April 20, 2008

This is for you ChocolateCoveredVegan:

I realized that one of my happy face bowls still has it’s happy face so I took a picture. For those who don’t know, ChocolateCoveredVegan has the same bowl!

Back to breakfast, I made oatmeal with some vanilla almond milk and coffee. It is so yummy! It’s more almond-tasting than coffee-tasting because I only added a small amount of coffee, which is perfect!I I had a kiwi on the side for my fruit component, skin and all. My only complaint is that my bowl looks so empty without any add-ins! The only bananas at the store were so green that I’ll be moving before they’re ripe, so I have no bananas – the only fruit that sounds like it belongs in my bowl this morning  I don’t even have any other cereals or nuts for crunch! Yes, that means you will be seeing a lot of oats for the next week and a half :P

Same old, same old

April 16, 2008

Just another day of banana oatmeal! As if any day with banana oatmeal could be classified as “just another day”

I am so excited for this afternoon! It’s supposed to get up to 14 degrees!! That’s 57 for all you Fahrenheit people :P I am definitely going to go outside and do something in the sunshine this afternoon if the forecast is right. Until then, I’ll be in class and then at the computer lab if I know what’s good for me.

The stove wins!

April 11, 2008

For making oats, that is!

This morning, since I had no class, I slept in a bit and tried Kath’s Whipped Banana Oatmeal on the stovetop for a change. It was amazing, so creamy and delicious! I honestly didn’t beleive there ws that much of a difference between this and the microwave until I tried this. Wow!

With a café au lait:

Sorry the photo looks so blah today, it’s a bit washed out because I’m sitting next to the window enjoying the sunshine that’s pouring in!

On a side note, I had another snack when I got home last night: cheese! It was about 1.5 oz of low fat jalapeno cheese, but I almost forgot a photo so there’s only a bite left!

Now I’m off to the grocery store, my fridge is bare!

Sleep at last!

April 9, 2008

Good morning!

Well, I finally got to sleep last night at a decent hour and I slept like a log. It was wonderful but I feel more tired this morning! I know this usually happens to me while I’m “catching up” though, so in a couple of days I will feel better if I keep sleeping well. :D

I had some banana oatmeal this morning. I’m taking advantage of the weather still being cool to enjoy a warm breakfast since I probably won’t be in the mood in a month or two.

A few weeks ago I did a breakfast experiment. I know a lot of people like to eat a bigger breakfast and include more healthy fat and protein by adding nuts or nut butters, so I gave it a try. I wanted to really give this a chance, so my experiment lasted for a few weeks. The result? I prefer to eat a smaller breakfast and then a snack or early lunch a few hours later. I find that no matter what I eat, I’m hungry within 3 hours (unless I eat junk, then I’m hungry a lot sooner!) This applies to all my meals, not just breakfast. More proof that everyone is different I guess :)

I’m goung to post my lunch now too because it’s all packed up and ready to go. I don’t want to carry my camera around with me at school all day because I’m not all that careful (sometimes I drop my bag on the desk without thinking!) I don’t want a broken camera! It’s just leftovers from last night, nothing too exciting to see… but exciting to eat :D

See you at suppertime!
